About Us

Friends of Langney Cemetery and Eastbourne Crematorium is a volunteer community group formed in May 2026.

The group began with a focus solely on the cemetery, but quickly expanded to include the crematorium which occupies the grounds alongside the cemetery.

The group aims to:

• Promote, preserve and advocate for both the cemetery and crematorium grounds. 
• Photograph graves and memorials and add them to Find A Grave.
• Liaise with the Bereavement Office at the Crematorium regarding any issues or concerns about the grounds.
• Assist the public in locating graves and memorials.
• Report damaged and potentially dangerous graves or areas.
• Conduct a weekly site walk to check for issues: i.e: fallen headstones, vandalism, rubbish dumps etc.
• Promote and encourage the assortment of wildlife that call the grounds their home.
• Make the area a welcoming place for all and help remove taboos or morbid connotations regarding burial spaces.

The Future

It is our goal to conduct walking tours and volunteer grave cleaning days, but as we are a fledgling group, we are unable to do so at this time.

Once the group has more volunteers we will be able to make ourselves “official” with a committee and a constitution. If you’re interested in joining the Friends group please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
